How to Use Baking Soda to Lighten Dark Inner Thighs

Using baking soda for dark inner thighs is a great technique but it might not be the best idea for people with sensitive skin.

Baking soda is known to lighten the skin so it is a common addition to many DIY recipes for skin lightening.

Why People Use Baking Soda For Dark Inner Thighs

Baking Soda mainly acts as a mild abrasive, gently exfoliating the skin. It is also anti-inflammatory so it helps to soothe the skin.

It has been proven, by reviews from thousands of people, that baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) lightens the skin. However, there is no scientific proof that it bleaches the skin or directly affects melanin production.

But, based on personal experience and reviews from so many others, you can actually see your skin getting lighter as you use it – so something must be happening!

Despite this, though, baking soda should be used on your skin with caution.

Side Effects of Using Baking Soda For Dark Inner Thighs

Baking soda, though generally safe for the skin (according to the FDA), can also be irritating.

Baking soda is very easily absorbed into the skin. It affects your skin’s pH, making it more alkaline than it should be. This can cause irritation (especially in people with sensitive skin) and dryness, and it can increase your risk of skin infections (especially candida). It may also strip the skin of necessary oils, and disrupt the acid mantle your skin needs to protect it from infection and breakouts.

So how do you prevent this?

You should use baking soda periodically or develop an alternating routine that works for your skin. You should not use it every day or as a skin cleanser. And when you do use it, make sure to moisturize your skin well.

As always, I recommend that you patch-test your skin before using baking soda on a large area like your inner thighs.

Baking soda is best used on the skin when mixed with water, or other ingredients to form a paste that can be washed off well enough.

It can be used daily for some time, but then you should stop to allow your skin to recover and maintain a good pH.

When using baking soda, apply it either in the morning or evening. Once per day is recommended to avoid making your skin too dry or irritated.

How long will it take to see results?

If you use baking soda consistently, you can see a difference in your skin within a week.

However, this will vary depending on your routine, how dark your skin is, whether the cause of the hyperpigmentation is controlled, and your daily habits.

Best DIY Recipes With Baking Soda For Dark Inner Thighs

1- Baking Soda Scrub

This one is pretty basic especially if you just want to use baking soda alone:

  • Simply mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of water.
  • Apply this mixture to your skin and massage in gentle, circular motions for about 5 minutes.
  • Then let it sit on your skin for about 10-15 minutes and wash it with lukewarm water.
  • Moisturize your skin afterward.

2- Baking Soda & Lemon Juice

This recipe calls for the use of lemon juice which will also help to lighten the skin through its vitamin C and citric acid content. Since it is also acidic, it will help to balance the alkaline effects of the baking soda.

So, if your skin is not too sensitive, then can be a great remedy to use more often on your skin than just baking soda alone.

Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with the juice of ½ a lemon. Apply this mixture to your skin and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Wash it off with cold water, dry your skin and moisturize.

3- Baking Soda & Apple Cider Vinegar

Like lemon juice, apple cider vinegar is also quite acidic. So, it will help to balance the pH effects of baking soda. It is also antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, and it cleanses the pores of the skin.

Add enough ACV to a tablespoon of baking soda to make a thick paste. Apply the paste to your skin and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Then wash it off, dry your skin and moisturize.

You can mix baking soda with other things as well, like cucumber juice, tomato juice, glycerin, honey, milk, curd, and even coconut oil.
