How to use Coconut oil to lighten dark inner thighs

Coconut oil is amazing and has tons of benefits for your skin. Sadly it cannot bleach your dark inner thighs but over time Coconut oil can help to lighten and improve the appearance of darkness (hyperpigmentation).

This natural oil is traditionally extracted from raw coconut or dried coconut kernels. It is very rich in fatty acids that nourish the skin. These are the nutrients the skin will use to become healthier, softer, and more toned-looking.

What Coconut Oil Does For The Skin

Coconut oil will help to moisturize and soften your skin, keeping it healthy and happy. This means less irritation and inflammation, thus less hyperpigmentation. Over time, your skin will generate skin cells that are more evenly toned. This will improve the look of mild hyperpigmentation.

Its many benefits for the skin include:

1- Antimicrobial Properties

The medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil have antimicrobial properties that can help protect the skin. This is thanks to its lauric acid content, which makes up nearly 50% of the fatty acids.

For skin health, this is great as many types of skin infections, including acne, cellulitis, folliculitis and athlete’s foot, are caused by bacteria or fungi.

2- Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Inflammation is a hallmark of many skin conditions, especially chronic ones. Inflammation also causes hyperpigmentation, especially in areas like the inner thighs.

Coconut oil contains antioxidants that fight inflammation and help to soothe skin, reducing the chance of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin due to inflammation).

3- Moisturizing Properties

Coconut oil is very rich in fatty acids which help to boost hydration and moisture content in the skin. Apply it consistently to the skin also keeps the skin’s moisture barrier healthy, making the skin less prone to infections and irritation.

4- Acne-Soothing Properties

Since coconut oil is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, it can help to soothe and reduce acne lesions on the skin.

Some people believe that this oil will block pores and make acne worse. But, if you are prone to easily blocked pores, then you only need to apply the oil where your acne lesions oil, avoiding the rest of the face.

Consistent use is also very helpful in conditions like eczema and dermatitis which present with chronic, dry, itchy, and flaky skin. It keeps the skin soft and hydrated.

Here’s the thing, even though coconut oil will not bleach your skin, you can still use it with other ingredients to boost skin lightening and nourishment.

I use Virgin coconut oil this is because it is more beneficial (and has more nutrients) than the refined one.

It is sometimes a base ingredient in many DIY and even OTC treatments for skin lightening.

So, apart from using it on its own, you can use coconut oil with other ingredients to lighten your dark inner thighs.

How long will coconut oil take to work?

This will depend on how bad your darkened patch of skin is – the worse it is, the longer any treatment will take.

Also, remember that coconut oil will not completely fade your darkened skin or bleach it. It will help by gradually promoting healthier skin cells through nourishment and protection.

So, any results you see will be gradual and will usually take months of consistent application.

Side Effects

Coconut oil is generally well tolerated on the skin, but in rare cases, people might experience allergic reactions or breakouts.

If you are allergic to coconuts or any coconut products, you should not use this oil on your skin.

Also, if you notice it is causing breakouts or clogged pores, this can be a reaction or an acne flare-up (rare but still possible).

As always, I recommend that you do patch tests on your skin before applying any of our recipes or ingredients on wider areas of skin, especially your sensitive inner thighs.

Alternatives

The gold standard treatment for moderate to severe hyperpigmentation, even on the inner thighs is Hydroquinone.
