Using Antifungal Soaps For Private Parts & Yeast Infections

Using Antifungal Soaps For Private Parts & Yeast Infections

Using antifungal soaps for private parts and yeast infections down there is not a good idea.

It may seem like a good idea and even help on a one-off, but using it often or as a treatment will most likely do more harm than good.

Instead, see your gynecologist for better and safer treatments, most of which are available over the counter after a brief consultation with a licensed pharmacist, medic, nurse, or doctor.

Why You Cannot Use Antifungal Soaps On Your Private Parts

Most antifungal soaps are made with high concentrations of the antifungal medication, along with other harsh ingredients. These were not designed for the delicate skin and pH of your private parts.

  • Medicated antifungal soaps will most often contain high concentrations of ketoconazole (antifungal medication), sulfur, and zinc.
  • The more natural formulas will contain high concentrations of tea tree oil, eucalyptus, peppermint, and other ingredients that are too harsh for down there.

Neither the medicated nor natural soaps will have the right skincare systems for the skin and the pH of your private parts.

If you use it once, in a pinch, it may help the itching and the infection by quickly getting rid of some of the fungi, but using it as a treatment or regularly is counter-productive.

What will happen is that your pH will become whacky and your mucosa (the soft skin down there) will become too dry. This will lead to the infection getting worse, rather than better. Your skin itself will become irritated and may even become red, blistered, swollen and painful (even more itchy too!).

What You Can Use Instead On Your Private Parts And For Yeast Infections

To cleanse (regularly or if you do not have an infection), plain, clean water will do the trick. It’s all that you need.

However, if you feel like you need some extra help:

  • Then use a wash that is unscented and specifically designed for your private parts.
  • These washes are only to be used externally (on the skin around the area itself).
  • Do not douche or insert soap and water into your vaginal canal or directly onto your penis.
  • If you do not have an infection, these practices might give you one, and if you have one already, they will only make it worse.

However, if you have a yeast infection, I recommend consulting a medical professional for the best advice. Usually, yeast infections are easily treated with a one-dose medication called Fluconazole (it may have different brand names) without the need for you to wash down there with anything or apply anything.

But depending on how bad the infection is, you may need to either apply a cream or ointment or use a suppository. These will contain antifungal medication and will be specifically designed for use on and in your private parts.

These are the treatments that are safest for you to use, as directed by a professional.

What Antifungal Soaps Can Be Safely Used For

Antifungal soaps are best used for fungal infection on external skin on areas like your scalp, face, back, feet, neck, etc. (and around your private parts but not too close to or inside)

As antifungal soaps can be harsh and drying, you will need to make sure that your skin is well moisturized every time you use them.

However, once they are of good quality, antifungal soaps do a great job of treating fungal infections on the skin. They work very fast and are easy to use.

Great Antifungal Soaps For Skin (External Use Only)

Before you use any of these products (or any product) on large areas of your skin, I recommend that you do a patch test.

And do not forget to check your labels! Make sure that none of the ingredients listed are things you are known to be allergic or sensitive to.

1- Defense Medicated Antifungal Bar Soap

This soap contains Tolnaftate, which is an antifungal medication. It is used to treat certain kinds of yeast and other kinds of fungal infections of the skin.

The soap also contains Tea Tree and Eucalyptus essential oils. It is designed to be used anywhere on the skin externally. However, it cannot be used directly on or inside your private parts.

I have used this soap to help with a skin fungal infection called tinea versicolor on my neck and back. It worked pretty well. It was a little drying for my skin, but I moisturized well. And, I only needed to use it until the infection went away. That took about two weeks.
