Best Hypoallergenic Deodorants For Sensitive Skin

Hypoallergenic deodorants for sensitive skin are those that are free of common ingredients that are known to cause allergic reactions in the majority of people.

People can be allergic to various things so there is no way to know precisely what ingredient any single person might be affected by. However, there are some that many people are allergic to, and that are common causes for complaints.

So, companies do their research and try their best to avoid using some or most of these ingredients in their formulas to make them as safe and non-irritating as possible for as many people as they can.

How To Know If Deodorants Are Hypoallergenic

Generally, most deodorants and other hypoallergenic products will say so on the packaging. However, you can also check the ingredients list to see what ingredients are listed.

If the labels do not clearly state that the formula is hypoallergenic, then chances are that there are one or two ingredients in there that may cause allergic reactions or irritation in some people.

Some products will say that it’s designed for sensitive skin. This is not the same as being hypoallergenic, but it does mean that it was designed to minimize irritation and reactions as well.

Now, if you know what ingredients you are allergic to, you can check the ingredients list to make sure that they are not included in the product.

Also look for things like fragrances (including phthalates), dyes, parabens, sulfates, triclosan, acids, and other harsh ingredients. Hypoallergenic products do not contain these.

In deodorants, particularly, hypoallergenic ones will be made without aluminum, baking soda, fragrances, phthalates, dyes, sulfates, parabens, alcohol and other harsh ingredients. Look out for any ingredient that is known to dry out the skin or cause irritation or allergic reactions commonly.

Also, be aware of natural deodorants. “Natural” does not mean hypoallergenic. Natural or organic ingredients can still cause allergic reactions and irritation.

Keep in mind that even though something says it’s “hypoallergenic” that does not mitigate 100% of the risk of allergic reactions. People are sensitive to allergy-causing ingredients to varying degrees. Some people’s skin might not react at all while others can react to the slightest exposure to the most unexpected ingredients.

So it all boils down to your skin, your allergies, and your reaction to the ingredients in any product.
