Vanicream Deodorant Review - Is It Effective & Safe To Use

Vanicream is known for its attention to skincare for sensitive skin and one of its most popular products is its Antiperspirant Deodorant.

The company promotes this product as being clinical strength, free of many of the harsh chemicals usually used, dermatologist-tested, and child-friendly. They also claim that it is expected to give you 24-hour sweat and odor protection.

So, we are here to see how well this antiperspirant deodorant actually holds up and whether it is as great as it sounds for sensitive skin.

Is the Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant Effective

When put to the test, the Vanicream antiperspirant deodorant appears to work very well for people with both sensitive and regular skin who have mild to moderate sweating and odor.

Sweating

While I do not sweat very much in the underarm area unless I do an intense workout, many of the people who have tried this all say that it holds up relatively well for at least 24 hours with physical activity.

Even though this product is unscented, the majority of users across the globe (myself included) agree that it still keeps them odor free for the day, even when they work out. Very few reviewers claim that it was not strong enough for them to last all day.

Sensitivity

Many users turn to this deodorant more for their sensitive skin rather than for excessive sweating. Many people who struggle with psoriasis, eczema, breakouts, and irritation say that they can use this antiperspirant safely without getting a flare-up or an adverse reaction.

Its lack of fragrance is a big plus for many (including me as added fragrances irritate my skin beyond belief!).

However, there is a small percentage of users who have experienced some irritation (as they have with all other antiperspirants they have used as well) so I do recommend that you do a patch test first just to be safe.

Wearability

From personal experience, this is comfortable to wear. It goes on smoothly and dries down nicely. It does not leave the skin feeling dry or sticky and it does not stain your clothes. It also washed off easily in the shower.

The Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant will prevent mild to moderate sweating and odor.

It contains Aluminum Zirconium Trichlorohydrex Gly 20% (a safe amount according to the FDA) which blocks the ducts of our sweat glands. This prevents us from excreting sweat.

How long will the Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant last?

From personal use and based on global reviews, this antiperspirant deodorant will hold up for at least 24 hours with mild to moderate physical activity. One container should last you at least 2 months.

People who have severe sweating and odor (hyperhidrosis) may need to reapply more than once per day to get effective results. In this case, your container may run out faster than the average user.

Since the Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant is great for sensitive skin, unless you have a bad reaction to the product, it will not make your underarms darker. On the other hand, it also does not contain any kind of bleaching or lightening ingredients so it is not expected to make your underarms lighter.

However, generally, when you use products that work well with your skin, it becomes healthier and as the skin regenerates, it starts to look and feel better (more evenly toned, softer and nicer). This can sometimes make the area look lighter than before.

Does the Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant have any side effects we should worry about?

The biggest concern when using the Vanicream Antiperspirant Deodorant is irritation and allergic reactions. However, these are rare.

Since Vanicream has bypassed so many of the usual ingredients we are used to seeing in deodorants and antiperspirants, what ingredients are in this product to make it work? Let’s see.

The active ingredient in the Vanicream™ Antiperspirant Deodorant is Aluminum Zirconium Trichlorohydrex Gly 20% (Anhydrous). This is what blocks the ducts of our sweat glands to reduce sweating and keep us dry.

The other ingredients include:

Cyclopentasiloxane – acts as a skin conditioner and emollient.
Hydrogenated poly (C6-14 olefin) – this acts as a skin conditioner and is occlusive.
Stearyl alcohol – acts as a skin conditioner and emollient. In the formula, it is also a viscosity adjuster and an emulsion stabilizer.

Phenyl trimethicone – this acts as a skin conditioner and is occlusive.
Hydrogenated castor oil – this acts as a skin conditioner and is occlusive. In the formula, it also acts as a viscosity adjuster.
Cetyl alcohol – acts as a skin conditioner and emollient. In the formula, it is also a viscosity adjuster and an emulsion stabilizer.
