Sweatblock Wipes- Are They Safe, Benefits, & Side Effects

Sweatblock is a company that makes products for people who suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and who also possibly struggle to keep body odor under control. The Sweatblock wipes are one of their popular and easy-to-use products.

I have gotten loads of questions like: What are the Sweatblock wipes? What ingredients are they infused with? Do they contain aluminum? Are they safe? How do you use them? How well do they work? How long do they last?

So, I decided to try the Sweatblock wipes and see what all the hype is about.

What Are Sweatblock Wipes

Sweatblock wipes are Antiperspirant body wipes that are infused with cleansing and refreshing ingredients, as well as Aluminum to control sweating.

The company makes different kinds for different parts of the body. Each contains a slightly different concentration and type of Aluminum. However, they are all considered to be clinical strength and suitable for excessive sweating.

The Sweatblock Wipes come in 3 options:

  1. Max Clinical Antiperspirant Wipes
  2. Max Clinical Antiperspirant Body Wipes [XL]
  3. Face Antiperspirant Wipes

How Do Sweatblock Wipes Work

The active ingredient in Sweatblock wipes is Aluminum, which controls sweating.

Aluminum penetrates the skin and gets into the pores with form plugs. These plugs block your sweat ducts and prevent you from sweating.

The aluminum plugs will stay in your pores for 7 more days depending on your daily routine. Eventually, they will break down and you will need to reapply more of the formula to form new plugs.

If you want a more gentle and natural wipe consider Lume Acidified Deodorant Wipes.

Are the Sweatblock Wipes safe to use?

The Sweatblock Wipes, regardless of their aluminum content, are non-toxic and safe to use.

Aluminum, once used in FDA-approved concentrations, is not toxic and will not cause long-term harm nor will it cause cancers.

The concentration of aluminum approved for use in deodorants, wipes, and other topical products is too small to cause illness. Only very small amounts of aluminum that your skin gets into contact with will enter the bloodstream.

How To Use & What To Expect from Sweatblock Wipes

1- Max Clinical Antiperspirant Wipes

What is in the box: Each box contains 10 wipes in individual packets.

How & Where To Use: Swipe your dry underarms after cleansing your skin or showering at night, before bed.

When do you see results: You should see results within 24 hours of using the wipes as the aluminum penetrates and blocks your sweat glands. Based on my experience, one application is enough to block your sweat glands effectively under your arms. The wipe is small and saturated so the formula reaches all your glands in a small treatment area well.

How long do the effects last: These wipes are expected to keep you dry for at least 7 days after use. My underarms remained bone dry for those 7 days and then relatively dry for another 3 days. Around day 10, I noticed a small sweat stain after my workout so I knew it was time to reapply.

2- Max Clinical Antiperspirant Body Wipes

What is in the box: Each box contains 10 extra-large wipes in individual packets.

How & Where To Use: Use these body wipes after cleansing your skin or showering at night, before bed. Make sure that your skin is dry. Then wipe down your body (neck, chest, back, arms, legs, thighs, etc.) with the wipe.

Do not scrub or rub at your skin. Just gently swipe all over. Allow the formula to air dry on your skin completely before going to bed. The next morning, wash your body as you normally would with soap and water. You can shower, bathe, swim, exercise, etc. without reducing effectiveness.

When do you see results: You should see results within 24 hours of using the wipes. The aluminum penetrates and blocks your sweat glands more effectively overnight when you are most likely not actively sweating.

However, if you are still sweating after the first night of use, use a wipe every night after you shower and before bed until you see results. I noticed that it took more than one application for this one to be fully effective.

This, of course, will vary for every person. But, I had to use 3 wipes, for 3 nights, before my sweat glands were effectively blocked.

How long do the effects last: These wipes are expected to keep you dry for at least 7 days after use. For me, it really did last the 7 days and then some. I showered every day and even went swimming during the week. By the end of 7 days, I was still not sweating as much. Halfway through day 10, I started to notice some sweating so I knew it was definitely time to reapply.

3- Face Antiperspirant Wipes

What is in the box: Each box contains 15 wipes in individual packets.

How To Use: Pat the wipe on your dry face after cleansing your skin or showering at night, before bed. Do not press or rub. Let the formula air dry on your skin before going to bed. The following morning, follow your regular skincare routine.

When do you see results: You should see results within 24 hours of using the wipes as the aluminum penetrates and blocks your sweat glands. One wipe was more than enough to treat my whole face, and one application was effective. I was sweat-free from the very next day.

How long do the effects last: These wipes are expected to keep you dry for at least 7 days after use. I showered, cleansed my face and followed my regular skincare and makeup routine all week. I was significantly sweat-free for the entire week.

However, my face is a little acne-prone. So even though it helped to control oil and sweating, the aluminum in my pores caused me to get a few breakouts. So, I did not reapply this one after 7 days. Instead, I gave myself a steam treatment and cleansed my pores to get the remaining aluminum out.

This was just my experience. Other people I know (guys and ladies) have used this without getting breakouts or side effects, especially those who are not acne-prone.

Side Effects Of Using Sweatblock Wipes

The major side effects associated with using Sweatblock wipes are irritation and allergic reactions.

Some people can be extra sensitive or allergic to aluminum. This is why some people prefer to use products that do not contain aluminum. These aluminum-free products, however, generally do not work well enough for excess sweating.

So, before using sweatblock wipes, check the ingredient lists to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

Also, as always, I recommend that you do a patch test on a small area of skin before applying the wipes to your face, all over your body, or any other widespread area.

Ingredients in Sweatblock Wipes

Each kind of Sweatblock wipe will contain slightly different ingredients.

The Max Clinical Antiperspirant Wipes contain Water, botanical extracts, polyethylene glycol 8000, polysorbate 20, vitamin E oil, eugenol, and aluminum chloride (14%).

The Max Clinical Antiperspirant Body Wipes contains Water, botanical extracts, polyethylene glycol 8000, polysorbate 20, vitamin E oil, eugenol, and aluminum chloride (15%).

And, the Face Antiperspirant Wipes contain Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel), Water, Aluminum Chlorohydrate, Polysorbate 20, PEG-180, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).

Now, the Sweatblock Wipes are all unscented (contain no added fragrances), but the body wipes (not the face wipes) do have a slight clove oil smell when you first apply them. This is because of the eugenol that the wipes are infused with. Eugenol is not a fragrance specifically but the extract generally has a strong scent.
