Kosas Deodorant Review – My Experience, Benefits & Risks

The Kosas Deodorant is called a chemistry deodorant because it uses AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) to control body odor. It is usually referred to as a “natural” deodorant but it’s really an aluminum-free and baking-soda-free deodorant.

So, of course, your friendly guinea pigs here at Sasily just had to try this one out to see whether it actually works and how well!

Remember that body odor is normal. But sometimes we struggle more than others. Click here to read more about Why Armpits Smell Even With Deodorant & Bathing: How to fix

How The Kosas Deodorant Works

This deodorant uses a blend of AHAs, including shikimic acid, mandelic acid, and lactic acid, to exfoliate the skin and neutralize odor instead of masking or absorbing it.

It also contains other ingredients like aloe vera extract, hyaluronic acid, and bioactive peptides which hydrate, soothe and condition the skin. This prevents irritation that can result from the AHAs and also helps to keep the skin healthy.

Is It “Natural”?

While this formula is aluminum-free and baking-soda-free, it is not all “natural”. All of its ingredients do not come from nature alone without processing.

It also does contain preservatives, although it is sulfate-free, paraben-free and as far as we can tell from the ingredients list, phthalate-free.

Here is the full ingredients list:

Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Mandelic Acid, Polyglyceryl-4 Cocoate, Sodium Hydroxide, Shikimic Acid, Lactic Acid, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Hyaluronic Acid, Citric Acid, Tartaric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Cananga Odorata Flower (Ylang Ylang) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Oil, Citrus Paradisi Peel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed (Jojoba) Oil, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene, Linalool

Another great aluminum-free deodorant that uses mandelic acid is the Lume Deodorant. Click here to read more about the Lume Deodorant Review- Is It Really Safe & Side Effects

Benefits Of Using The Kosas Deodorant

The Kosas Deodorant:

  • Gets rid of underarm odor
  • Improves dullness and discoloration
  • Exfoliates the skin
  • Moisturizes, hydrates and conditions the skin
  • Soothes the skin

Does it lighten dark underarms?

Over time, the Kosas Deodorant will help to lighten your dark underarms.

The AHAs in this formula will gradually exfoliate and resurface the skin. Newer, lighter skin cells will eventually replace the darker ones.

However, it will take a few weeks for you to begin to see a significant difference, especially if your underarms are very dark.

Side Effects Of Using The Kosas Deodorant

The most concerning side effect of the Kosas Deodorant is irritation. However, this does not affect everyone.

Because of the mix of AHAs that are used in the formula, some people’s skin becomes irritated. Especially those with sensitive skin. However, the other ingredients help to prevent this to some degree.

If you find that your skin is getting irritated, you may need to use this less frequently or consider other options.

I always recommend that you do a patch test before using any product all over your skin, especially under your arms.

Also, ensure to check the ingredients list to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the listed ingredients. If you are, then you should not use this deodorant. If you do develop an allergic reaction (an unknown allergy), then wash the product off with clean water and seek medical attention if necessary.

How Effective It Is (The Sasily experience)

For a deodorant that does not have any aluminum or baking soda, I was very surprised at how effective this was.

Now, I am not a big sweater. On regular days, I get only a little damp under the arms. This means that I also do not have that much odor. It becomes slightly noticeable by the end of the day (and only to myself).

For me, this deodorant kept my underarms completely odor-free all day. I even did some light cardio on a few days and even though I sweat a bit, the odor was not as much as I expected it to be.

For the guys here at Sasily, however, it was effective, but not as effective as it was for me. They sweat much more and produce more body odor. They also do more physical activity every day and work out more. For them, the said that the effects lasted them most of the day, on a regular day, when they did not work out. However, once they hit the gym, they could smell a bit of odor by the time they were finish.

They did say that the more they used it the better the effects seemed to last.

However, the final verdict for us is that The Kosas Deodorant is great if you have mild to moderate body odor. If you sweat a lot and you produce a lot of odor, this will only give you a few hours of protection. Remember that it does not stop sweating. It only deodorizes!

How To Use The Kosas Deodorant

The Kosas Deodorant is used like any other deodorant.

It is to be applied after your shower to dry underarms. Simply shake the tube, swipe the roll-on applicator across your skin a few times and let the product absorb.

You can apply more moisturizer afterwards if you need/want to.

It can (and should be) used every day or even every night. Basically after each shower or as needed.
