Perspirex is a brand of antiperspirant products that was designed for people who sweat excessively and have special sweat control needs. They have a product line formulated for both men and women and then another line just for men.

How Does Perspirex Work & Is it Safe

The Perspirex formula reacts with water to form a temporary gel plug in your pores and sweat ducts. This plug prevents sweat from reaching the surface of your skin for 3-5 days. During this time, the plug is gradually broken down and dispelled with the natural shedding of your skin’s dead skin cells.

The way Perspirex works and the ingredients that they use are completely safe and is the industry standard. Now skin issues like irritation can occur which is why it is important to patch test before using. Keep reading to learn more.

How To Use Perspirex

For the best results, the Perspirex products:

Should be applied at night (right before bed)

Should be applied on clean, dry, and unbroken skin.
Will need to be left on to dry completely and overnight.
And, finally, will need to be washed off in the morning with regular soap and water.

When you first start using these, you may need to apply them every night for about one week or until you get the desired effect. When your skin gets accustomed to the product, you will eventually only need one application to last you 3-5 days.

Will You Need To Apply Perspirex Every Day?

After you achieve the sweat-blocking effect, you will not need to apply Perspirex every day.

One application should be enough to effectively block your sweat ducts for 3-5 days depending on which product you use. If you find that you still sweat through a little, you just need to reapply until you are completely dry.

Can You Shower When Using Perspirex?

Of course! You can shower every day when using Perspirex.

Showering will not affect or lessen the effect of these products.

In fact, after you have applied the product and have left it on overnight to absorb into and plug your pores, it is recommended by the company in their instructions that you shower and wash the application area with soap and water to cleanse. After that, you can follow your regular shower routine.

How To Choose The Right Perspirex Product For You

Ultimately your choice will come down to how much sweat protection you need, and how your skin reacts to the Perspirex products.

If you have sensitive skin, I recommend using the Original, the Comfort Roll-on, or the Men’s Regular.

These have skincare ingredients in the formulas to hydrate and soothe the skin to prevent irritation. However, they will also have lower aluminum concentrations and so, will offer slightly less sweat protection.

I am not a big sweater and I have minimal odor so I am a huge fan of the comfort roll-on. I also have sensitive skin so this one works great for me.

However, the Strong Roll-on and the Men’s Maximum are meant for those who sweat excessively and don’t have sensitive skin. They have a higher concentration of Aluminum and minimal other ingredients to soothe the skin.

These are not also skin treatments i.e. moisturizers, but rather, straightforward sweat protection technology delivered directly to the skin with little to no buffers.

Types Of Perspirex Products

1- Perspirex Original Roll-on Antiperspirant Deodorant

This was the original formula, it is effective yet still not too harsh on the skin. It has a nice balance of aluminum concentrations to other ingredients to soothe and hydrate the skin

I recommend it for those who are struggling with sweaty armpits yet still don’t want to try a formula that is very potent.

2– Perspirex Comfort Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant

A gentler and milder version which is more suited for those with sensitive skin. This is because they have a lot of skincare ingredients in the formulas to hydrate and soothe the skin to prevent irritation. I preferred using the Comfort Roll-on compared to other types.

However, they will also have lower aluminum concentrations and so, will offer slightly less sweat protection.

3- Perspirex Strong Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant

The Perspirex Strong Roll-on has a higher concentration of Aluminum and minimal other ingredients to soothe the skin.

It is not a skin treatment, but rather, straightforward sweat protection technology delivered directly to the skin with little to no buffers. This means that it can be harsh on your skin so if you have sensitive skin this is not for you.

I recommend it for those with extreme sweating issues.

4- Perspirex Hand Lotion

Perspirex Hand Lotion has a nice gentle formula that works to minimize sweaty hands, fingers, and palms. It also contains moisturizing and hydrating ingredients.

5- Perspirex Foot Lotion

Perspirex Foot Lotion is very effective at combating sweaty feet. But it is not gentle on the skin. It contains a higher concentration of Aluminum compared to the hand lotion.

This is because it was made for your feet which produces a lot more sweat.

How Good Is Perspirex At Stopping Odor & Sweating?

Generally, from my research many users have reported that the Perspirex products are very effective for them. Now for me personally, Perspirex did a great job at preventing too much sweating and odor.

Now of course this will depend on the products you choose, how you use them, and ultimately how much sweating and odor you experience on a day-to-day basis.

Just Remember that sweating is a natural and normal bodily function that we all experience. However, some people sweat more than others, either due to genetics, weather, and environment, or medical conditions and other factors. The sweat mixed with the bacteria and debris on our skin (which are also normal) is what causes odor. So, some people will have more of this than others.

While the Perspirex products are designed to tackle excess sweat problems, they will work differently for different people.

Did Perspirex Work For Me?

Yes. While I am not an excessive sweater, I still do sweat, especially during hot days and during workouts. So I gave Perspirex Comfort a try before my first workout session of the week.

What followed was quite a unique experience. I followed the application instructions exactly and then headed to my gym on Monday morning. I decided to really put in some cardio so that I could work up a good sweat.

And boy, did I sweat. I felt like I was leaking saltwater from every pore on my body, except my underarms. You could see the sweat stains everywhere but my T-shirt was bone dry under my arms and there was no odor at all (I just smelled like normal skin under there!).

Ingredients

The active ingredient in the Perspirex products is Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate. The amount in each product may vary depending on the strength and effect required.

The different products will also have different ingredients depending on where they are designed to be used and their expected effects.

Aluminum Chloride can also sometimes irritate the skin of some people so other soothing and skin care ingredients have been added to some of the products (original, comfort, hand lotion, and the regular for men).

Possible Side Effects Of Using Perspirex

The most common side effects associated with using Perspirex are skin irritation and localized itching.

However, these are more likely to occur when using the Perspirex Strong or Men’s Maximum. They have higher concentrations of Aluminum and fewer skincare ingredients so they can be more irritating, especially if you have sensitive skin.

If irritation and itching do occur, wash your skin and take a break from using Perspirex for a few days. Opt to use Perspirex Comfort instead and see how that works for you. If it still irritates the skin, you may have to switch to another kind of antiperspirant or deodorant.

I have sensitive skin and I used Perspirex Comfort. I was pleasantly surprised when I did not experience any itching or side effects.

Also always remember to patch-test any product before putting it all over your skin. Unless you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed, then allergic reactions to Perspirex are rare.

A common concern is also that Aluminum is toxic for you, especially in the concentrations listed above in our ingredients section. However, Perspirex is FDA-regulated and approved. The amount of aluminum in these products are not high enough and will not be absorbed into your body enough to cause illnesses or cancer, even if used every day.
